Andrea Francis Kemp

Who are you?

I'm a Reykjavik based artist, traveller, writer and a poet. I like to be diverse and am forever learning and developing my artistic outlets. My writings are very personal and analytical in contrast to my paintings that are usually very abstract and free flowing, yet structured - it's where I try to shut out my thoughts and let my subconscious take over.

When did you start to paint?

I've been drawing and painting before I could even write, but I started getting more serious and disciplined about art making about two years ago after working myself out of depression.

Why this kind of art?

I admire abstract and it's way of expressing and sharing the more subtle messages without the usual symbolism and words. I am a very analytical person, so making abstract, playing with forms and colors is a very welcome escape to me. It's messages from my subconscious  that sometimes I don't understand until later.

A song ?

Army of Me - Björk

An artist that you admire?

Joan Miró, Hilma af Klint, Yayoi Kusama to name a few.
